Discoveryland USA

So, last night we went to Discoveryland USA in Sand Springs to see Rogers and Hammersteins Oklahoma. We've been wanting to take the boys for several years, but weren't sure if they were old enough yet. And since it's almost a 3 hour drive...we had to make SURE it was worth it.

We had another motivation to go as well...my youngest sister Ally has the lead role. This is Ally's second year to play Laurey, but since she's about to start her last year of college and since she getting married this time next year...it will be her last. So, it was now or never if we wanted to see her in Oklahoma.

First, let me tell you a little about Discoveryland USA. It's an outdoor theater that's been performing productions of Oklahoma and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers for over 35 years. It's all about family. The "Gold Package" tickets are $35 for adult and $11 for kids under 12. Here's was the package includes...

Ranch Dinner

(Ribeye steak sandwich, beans, corn, potato salad, and drink)

Box of popcorn

20oz soft drink

Strawberries and Cream or Ice Cream & Brownie Dessert
(Giant snow cones for the kids)

It's such a neat thing. Once you get your tickets and head into the park you don't pay for anything else. After dinner you head to the show. At any point you can use your coupons to get your popcorn and drink...and then at intermission you get your choice of desserts.

Ok, so here's something funny. You know how little ones get things a little confused sometimes. Well, a week or so ago Aunt Ally asked our whole family to be in her wedding next summer. I told the boys and they were all excited. Then Aunt Aley got "married" on the stage. All of the sudden Riley turned to me and said..."oh mom, so this aunt Ally's wedding and we're in it?"

After the show everyone is welcome to come up on stage and meet the cast. Of course the boys were thrilled to see their Aunt Ally and explore the set. Boston told me he wanted to ask "Curley" if he enjoyed having his face plastered all over his Aunt Aley.

It was a really fun evening, but a long long time in a car for 3 boys. We didn't get home till 2am...thankfully the boys slept most of the way home.
